School Bus Runs into Bicyclist on Congress Ave. in Delray Beach, Florida

DELRAY BEACH, FL. – According to a news story reported online at, a school bus ran into a bicyclist on Congress Avenue in Delray Beach, Florida. The cyclist has not yet been identified, and authorities are still working to understand what caused the collision. Little information has so far been released.*

The accident took place in the early morning, close to the intersection with Atlantic Avenue on Congress Avenue. The Delray Beach Police Department and The Boca Raton Tribune report that shortly before 6 a.m., a school bus was traveling in the area and somehow ran into a person on a bicycle. It appears the bus was headed south on Congress, but it is not clear what direction the bicyclist had been traveling at the time.

The school district affiliated with the bus was not named in the report. The details surrounding the accident have not been reported, so it is unclear how the two came to collide. The report did not say if one of the parties was at fault in the collision. 

The Boca Raton Tribune reports that the cyclist sustained injuries in the crash, and emergency responders took him or her to Delray Medical Center for treatment. The cyclist was not identified in the report, and the extent of his or her injuries was not provided. The report says that a current medical condition for the victim was not available. 

No identifying information on the school bus driver was included in the report, and it is unclear if the driver was injured. The Boca Raton Tribune stated that no students were on the bus at the time of the accident. 

All of southbound Congress Avenue was closed down following the accident for about two hours. Officers with the Delray Beach Police Department are continuing to investigate.
