Eleven-Year-old Severely Injured After Five-Vehicle Crash in Indian River County, Florida
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FL- Tcpalm.com writes that a five-vehicle collision caused severe injuries to an eleven-year-old child earlier this week. The accident took place on Interstate 95 in the late afternoon. The crash also left three adults with serious injuries. The four victims were sent to different hospitals for treatment.*
The child was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center, located in West Palm Beach by helicopter under a pediatric trauma alert.
The accident took place in the northbound lanes of I-95 between State Road 60 and County Road 512. Two of the northbound lanes remained closed for two hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
Three of the vehicles were identified as a white Chevrolet, a black Subaru, and a red ford truck.
Multiple vehicle accidents present issues when it comes to determining liability. These crashes often take place on high-speed roads such as highways where vehicles may be moving fast and too close together. Drivers often fail to realize how long it takes to stop in an emergency if the car in front of them slams on their brakes. The result can often be that one after another, vehicles run into the cars in front of them as each one is involved in the accident.
These crashes create some unique issues for vehicle occupants. In the first crash, airbags may be deployed, and the vehicle may crumble as designed to do in a collision. But the subsequent impacts can leave the occupants without those protections which are built into a vehicle. This can lead to more severe injuries, especially if the people in the cars decide to take off their seatbelts or start to exit after the initial crash.
