Bicyclist Seriously Injured After Hit by Vehicle on S.R. 7 in Loxahatchee, Florida

October 07, 2019

LOXAHATCHEE. FL. – According to a news report posted online at, a bicyclist was seriously injured when he was hit by a vehicle on State Road 7 in Loxahatchee, Florida. The victim is reportedly a school teacher who was training for a triathlon at the time of the accident. CBS 12 reports that the driver failed to yield to the cyclist.*

The accident occurred at the intersection of State Road 7 and Persimmon Boulevard. A bicyclist was riding south on State Road 7 at the time, and authorities say that a vehicle failed to yield at the intersection and ran into the bike. It is not clear what direction the vehicle was traveling.

CBS 12 indicates that the cyclist was seriously injured and taken to a nearby hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. He was identified as a teacher at Boca Raton Middle School. The report said he had recently donated a kidney to a stranger and was in the process of training for a triathlon when the collision took place. His legal representative told reporters that it could take a year before he was able to return to his job at school.

Local cyclists are speaking out after the crash, saying that drivers need to be more vigilant in keeping an eye out for bicycles and sharing the road.

“More and more of us are getting injured and getting hit by vehicles,” said a woman who bikes in the area every day, also training for a triathlon. “We try to ride where there are bike lanes and generally, driver[s] know that we’re out there. You need to be more mindful and wait for a better time to make that phone call or look at your text because there’s no reason that this happened on this particular intersection.”
