Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed Against Best Buy
The Family of a Woman from Boca Raton who was Beaten and Burned by a Delivery Man for Best Buy filed a Lawsuit Against the Company for Wrongful Death
WEST PALM BEACH, FL – According to an online news report at local10.com, the family of a woman, aged 75, who was delivered a washer and dryer to her home in Boca Raton, Florida has filed a lawsuit against Best Buy due to being fatally beaten and burned by a third party delivery man from Hialeah, Florida.*
Family members, as well as their attorneys, announced that they filed a wrongful death lawsuit late last week against Best Buy where she purchased the washer and dryer, as well as the companies that contracted with Best Buy to deliver the appliances.
"We learned that our beloved grandmother, wife, mother, mother-in-law and sister had been savagely beaten and burned," said the daughter-in-law of the deceased woman during a news conference announcing the filing of the lawsuit against Best Buy.
According to a police report issued by the Boca Raton Police Department, the delivery man, aged 21, beat the 75-year-old with a mallet and poured a chemical he found in her house all over her body. He then set her on fire, resulting in the woman’s tragic death. The delivery man then drove away while his co-worker called 911 to report the incident. The woman was rushed to a local hospital where she later perished.
The delivery man was hired by Best Buy to install the washer and dryer that the woman purchased. Per the wrongful-death lawsuit, Best Buy uses third-party companies to deliver its appliances. The lawsuit further alleges that the company “did nothing” to warn the woman that the delivery and installation services were performed by third-party companies and that Best Buy did not do anything to “investigate, supervise or oversee.” The case also asserts that Best Buy accepted the employees of the third-party delivery companies “as employees of Best Buy.”
