Pedestrian Sustains Serious Injuries in Crash on Central Avenue in St. Petersburg, Florida

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – According to an online news report at, a pedestrian is currently listed as in critical condition following an accident that occurred on Central Venue over the weekend in the evening hours, per the St. Petersburg Police Department.*

The male pedestrian, aged 66, was transported to a local hospital following the crash.  Police indicate that the pedestrian was attempting to go across Central Avenue where he was hit by an oncoming vehicle, which was a 1996 Honda Accord. The accident occurred in the late evening hours in the curb lane on Central Avenue west in St. Petersburg, Florida. The identity of the driver of the Honda has not been released to the public.

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crash remains under investigation by the local police.  

There are several causes of pedestrian accidents that are associated with a driver who is at fault.

Customarily, pedestrian-automobile accidents relate to the duty of care owed by drivers.  It is critical that pedestrians and drivers alike follow all road rules and exercise reasonable care.  In many pedestrian accidents, it is obvious who was negligent.  However, the courts examine a number of factors in applying the acts to the elements of negligence.

  • Failing to use one’s turn signal to communicate to pedestrians and drivers alike as to one’ intended direction
  • Driving while impaired by drugs and/or alcohol
  • Failing to drive in a safe manner during periods of inclement weather
