Accident Causes North Bay Street Closure in Tampa, Florida

TAMPA, FL – According to an online news report at, a traffic accident causes a road closure in Tampa, Florida.*

According to the local police, the accident involved injuries however, it is not clear who was hurt in the accident.  Also, the identification of the drivers and passengers, if any, has not been reported.  The crash caused Florida Avenue north to be blocked to traffic at North Bay Street. Drivers were asked to pursue alternate routes to reach their respective destinations.  There are no further details on the accident at this time. The accident remains under investigation by local authorities.

According to statistics generated in 2017, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and the Department of Motor Vehicles reported that there were nearly 400,000 accidents in Florida.  Data from the United States Department of Transportation evinces that there has been an increase in fatal automobile accidents by 12%.  However, there has been a decline in the amount of automobile accidents in Florida. Specifically, there were about 8,000 less vehicular accidents in Florida between 2016 and 2017.

Broward County and Miami were at the top of the list in terms of the amount of car accidents. In fact, Miami had over 60,000 total accidents in 2017, while Broward County, among the highest for auto accidents in Florida at about 40,000 total accidents.

According to the statistics from 2017, March saw the highest amount of accidents at 37,395 crashes.  Those who are between the ages of 25 and 34 were most likely to be in a vehicular accident. Fridays appeared to have the highest number of traffic accidents.  Moreover, nearly 70% of all accidents occurred during the day with the most amount of accidents happing between the hours of 4 pm and 5 pm.

It is believed that one of the main causes of accidents in central Florida is due to the ever-increasing population.  Per statistics from the United States Census Bureau, the metropolitan area of Orange County and Orlando has recently seen a population influx of approximately 60,000 new citizens.  Statistics further suggest that other common causes of accidents in Florida are as follows:  distracted driving, inclement weather, and driving while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
