Man Critically Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash in Miami-Dade County, Florida

October 07, 2019

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – According to an online news report at, police are currently searching for a driver who caused a 53-year-old man to sustain critical injuries in a crash that occurred in southwest Miami-Dade County, Florida.*

The 53-year-old sustained serious injuries after a Ford F-250 hit the driver’s side of his vehicle late last week in the vicinity of Southwest 216th Avenue.

According to the Miami-Dade police, the driver who hit the man ran a stop sign, which ultimately caused the crash. The suspect left his vehicle and fled the scene of the accident on foot, and also failed to render aid to the seriously injured victim.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run crash is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS or 866-471-8477.

There are several reasons why individuals leave the scene of an accident.  These are as follows:

  • Undocumented immigrant status.  In an effort to avoid potential deportation, it is not uncommon for undocumented immigrants to flee the scene of an accident.

  • Uninsured driver.  Some people flee the scene of a crash given that they do not have the state-required automobile insurance.  In an effort to avoid criminal charges as well as monetary fines, an uninsured suspect will flee the scene of an accident.

  • Driving while impaired. It is not uncommon for a driver who is impaired by drugs and/or alcohol to flee the scene of an accident due to the desire to avoid facing criminal penalties associated with getting a DUI conviction.  People with prior  DUI convictions are especially prone to fleeing an accident scene.

  • Outstanding warrants and previous traffic violations.  A driver may flee the accident scene in an attempt to avoid an arrest associated with an outstanding warrant.  Others may also flee if they have previous traffic violations that would lead to points on a driver’s license and dramatic increase in their insurance rates.
