Generac and DR Power Power Washers Recalled Due to Dangerous Carbon Monoxide Threat

April 29, 2022

According to an online accident news report published on wnem.com, the U.S. Product Safety Commission has announced that approximately 53,000 Generac and DR Power electric power washers are being recalled due to Carbon Monoxide danger.

The U.S. Product Safety Commission states that customers who purchased the recalled power washers must promptly remove their battery and only use the power washer after starting it using the pull-start option. The problem involves a defect in the product's electronic start/stop button located on the electric pressure washers. The defect can cause the pressure washer to malfunction, resulting in the washer self-starting. If the machine starts on its own, this poses a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

So far, the company has reported nine incidents of pressure washers self-starting and operating on their own and without being attached to a water supply. The recall announcement states that there haven't been any injuries or deaths reported so far.

The power washers were retailed from February 2018 until the end of February 2022 at most national home improvement stores and online stores such as Amazon, Home Depot, Lowe's, Menards, and Walmart.

The recall online affects model numbers

  • DPW3100DEN,
  • DPW3101DEN,
  • DPW3102DEN,
  • G0071320,
  • G0071321,
  • G0071430, and
  • G0071431.

Generac stated that it would assist customers with recalled power washers once they have set up an appointment through an authorized dealer. The company will replace the defective start/stop switch on the power washer at no charge to the customer.
