48,000 Tesla Model 3 Vehicles Recalled Due to Speed Display Flaw

April 29, 2022

According to a new report published on CNBC.com, Tesla is recalling 48,000 motor vehicles due to a speed flaw that increases the risk of accidents.

The recall online affects Model 3 Performance vehicles sold inside the United States. The problem involves the speedometer not displaying the vehicle's speed while in "Track Mode." The recall details were documented and released to the public and the National Highway Transportation Administration on Friday.

The speedometer recall covers Model 3 motor vehicles with model years 2018 through 2022. Tesla stated that the company would perform an "over-the-air" update of the vehicles' software to correct the dangerous flaw. Tesla also reported that a firmware update that was released last December accidentally removed the speedometer from the user interface.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated that the Tesla Model 3 motor vehicle currently does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards since drivers do not know how fast their motor vehicles are moving, increasing the risks of being involved in an accident.

So far in 2022, Tesla has recalled a lot of its vehicles due to pressure from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Tesla issued another recall today concerning its 2022 Model X vehicle after it was discovered that a bracket wasn't installed at the second-row seat.

Tesla has initiated ten safety recalls so far in 2022. These recalls affect approximately 2.1 million motor vehicles manufactured by the company. The NHTSA said that some of the recalled motor vehicles are being recalled in other campaigns. Tesla has experienced the second-highest number of motor vehicle recalls this year.
