SOUNDBOKS Bluetooth Speakers Recalled Due to Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Hazard

April 15, 2022

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, SOUNDBOKS Inc., of Santa Monica, California, has issued a recall of its SOUNDBOKS Generation 3 Bluetooth speakers due to a lithium-ion battery fire hazard.  The Bluetooth speakers were manufactured in China.  The recall number is 22-737 and affects approximately 6,700 units.

The recall announcement states that SOUNDBOKS (Generation 3) Bluetooth speakers contain BATTERYBOKS 3 lithium-ion batteries.  The lithium-ion batteries are removable from the Bluetooth speaker and they connect via a slot located on the side of the Bluetooth speaker on the other side of the speaker's user interface.  Each recalled speaker has a special serial number printed in the battery compartment.  Consumers should check the Bluetooth speaker's serial number when speaking to SOUNDBOKS.

The SOUNDBOKS Bluetooth speaker measures around 26.5" high by 17"  wide by 13" deep.  The speaker's grille cover was sold in the following colors: orange, black, white, blue., and red.

Those who purchased the speaker should immediately stop operating the speakers, take out the battery, and contact the SOUNDBOKS to receive a new battery for free.  SOUNDBOKS is providing free replacement lithium-ion batteries as well as a $100 credit toward future purchases at SOUNDBOKS online store.  Instructions for properly disposing of the lithium-ion batteries will be provided.  SOUNDBOKS will notify known owners directly.

Recalled lithium-ion batteries must be disposed of in accordance with local and state regulations.  Do not throw the recalled battery in the garbage.  Also, do not put the recalled battery in used battery recycling boxes.  These potentially dangerous batteries must be handled differently and it is important to follow the procedures provided by your municipal recycling center for defective and recalled lithium batteries.
