Skippy Peanut Butter Recalled in 18 States Due to Steel Fragment Contamination

April 07, 2022

According to an online recall news report published on realsimple.com, Skippy Foods, in partnership with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has initiated a recall of more than 9,350 cases of SKIPPY Creamy Peanut Butter Blended With Plant Protein, SKIPPY Reduced Fat Chunky Peanut Butter Spread, and SKIPPY Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread.*

No other varieties or sizes of Skippy peanut butter were included in the recall. The peanut butter products have been recalled due to dangerous steel fragment contamination.  The recall announcement states that some jars of SKIPPY might contain small pieces of stainless steel.  The steel contaminants were from the manufacturing equipment.

According to a separate recall announcement issued from Skippy, the recalled peanut butter products were allocated to retail stores in these 18 states: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin.

The peanut butter recall was initiated out of caution after Skippy Foods' internal detection systems when its manufacturing facilities detected the issue.  According to the FDA, there are no consumer complaints connected to the recall.  All retailers have been notified about the affected products.
