Luyuan and Venom Motorsports ATV Recall Due to Federal Maximum Speed Violations

October 05, 2021

ATV companies Luyuan and Venom Motorsports issued recalls for their "kids' all-terrain vehicles" due to federal safety standard violations. The affected ATVs were manufactured in China.

Luyuan Youth ATV Recall

In September 2021, multiple Youth All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) models manufactured in China and sold online and in the United States were recalled for failing to meet certain federal safety standards, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). While the safety concerns pose a “serious risk of injury or death,” the CPSC has reported no incidents or injuries as of October 2021.

Approximately 6,800 Luyuan Youth ATVs were recalled. The recall involves products sold between August 2018 and August 2020. The CPSC announced that the recalled products failed to comply with federal ATV safety standards, include maximum speed limitations. The ATVs also failed to meet other mandatory safety requirements for motorized vehicles intended for children under the age of 10.

While the Luyuan Youth ATVs were intended for children 6 years and older, the recall notice states that the products were marketed toward children 5 years and older on Walmart.com, and even as young as 12 months on Amazon.com.

The affected ATV models include Luyuan models LY-ATV-40A, LY-ATV-40D, LY-ATV-40E, and LY-ATV-40I; some models include GoBowen or GBMOTO branding. The CPSC advises customers to discontinue use of the recalled models and to contact Luyuan directly for a free repair from an authorized repair shop.

Multiple news reports warned consumers that as of September 30, 2021, the company's recall page on its website took visitors to an adult website.

A second brand, Venom Motorsports, also recalled a series of their youth ATVs in September. According to the CPSC, Venom recalled approximately 500 ATVs, including both Gas and Electric models.

According to the CPSC, The affected models “do not meet mandatory safety requirements,” potentially creating a “risk of serious injury or death.” Additionally, the Venom ATVs did not follow a CPSC-approved ATV Action Plan when imported and distributed in the United States. These Action Plans are designed to protect the safety of consumers.

The Venom recall includes:

  • Venom E-Grizzly 1500w 48V E-A07 Electric
  • Venom E-Madix 1300w 48V E-A050 Electric
  • Venom Grizzly 125cc HX125B Gas
  • Venom Racing Madix 125cc MADIX125 Gas
  • Venom Mini Madix 110cc HX110D Gas

The CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled products, and to contact Venom Motorsports for a full refund for returned recalled products. Additional details are provided on the company's website, venommotorsportsusa.com.
