Recent Study Identifies the Most Dangerous Highways in Georgia

September 04, 2019

ATLANTA, GA – According to an online news article published by patch.com, a recent report identifies the most dangerous highways in Georgia along with other dangerous highways throughout the rest of the United States.*

A study conducted by ASecureLife, an online company that performs reviews of home security systems, reviewed data from 2015 to 2017 to determine which highways in each state pose the greatest dangers to drivers and passengers. The study reveals that Georgia has one of the 10 deadliest highways in the United States.

The crash fatality data reviewed in the study was provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for the months of May through September in 2015, 2016, and 2017.  In Georgia, the deadliest highway is I-75 with a reported 111 fatalities between 2015 and 2017 that happened in the summer months of May through September.

Comparing Georgia to the rest of the United States, I-75 was the ninth most dangerous highway for the months of May through September between 2015 and 2017.  The highways considered more dangerous than I-75 are highways in the states of California, Florida, and Texas, all states that are more populated than Georgia.

Additional “deadly” highways in Georgia include I-20 with 55 fatalities and I-16 with 35 fatalities between 2015 and 2017 that happened in the summer months of May through September.  I-95, which crosses through Georgia and seven other states, is considered one of the top three deadliest highways during the months of May through September. While the winter months can pose dangers to those on the roadway, the summer months often are more dangerous as there are additional drivers and passengers on the road, including teenagers who are out of school, families choosing to travel on road trips, and those wishing to participate in outside activities such as attending barbecues and beach trips.
