New Year's Eve App Provides Access to Free Rides Homes

December 28, 2012

Drunken driving fatalities rise during the New Year's Eve holiday so it is a time to be very careful on Georgia roadways. Although DUI traffic fatalities in Georgia fell eleven percent during 2010, drunken driving accidents remain a serious problem during the New Year’s holiday, which often is filled with holiday celebrations where alcohol flows freely.

The Governor’s Office for Highway Safety has announced that law enforcement will be aggressively patrolling and enforcing DUI laws during the New Year weekend. Georgia’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is an annual program that focuses on letting drivers know that if they are pulled over for DUI and are found to be intoxicated they will be arrested.

The Governor’s Office also has announced a new program that may help reduce the risk of being involved in an accident if you will be drinking on New Year’s Eve. The program is a smartphone app called Drive Sober Georgia. The program provides an app that is free for download on the iPhone or Android market or may be viewed free online at www.drivesobergeorgia.com. The app provides access to resources throughout Georgia like AAA and Tow to Go that offer free transportation home for those who are too impaired on New Year’s Eve to drive home safely. This program is designed for anyone in a position to discourage intoxicated drivers from taking to Georgia roadways including party hosts, bars or restaurants and those celebrating the holiday.

Drunken driving accidents are tragic and completely unavoidable. Every year the optimism and fun of New Year’s Eve is diminished by irresponsible drivers that needlessly drink and drive. These accidents can lead to the loss of a loved one or permanent life-altering injuries like spinal cord injuries or traumatic brain injuries. There is no excuse for driving while intoxicated with so many programs available offering to safely transport people home with no questions asked. Our experienced Georgia DUI accident attorneys see the tragic outcome of drivers who fail to plan their holiday celebration so that it includes a safe way to get home. We urge everyone to plan ahead and arrange alternate transportation if you will be drinking.
