Head-On Collision in Douglas County, Georgia- Woman Killed, 4 More Injured

A deadly head-on collision occurred at 5 p.m. on November 23, 2011 in the 3200 block of Bankhead Highway (U.S. 78), west of Burnt Hickory Road.

According to reports, Ivery I. Mattox Parks, a 57-year-old Douglasville woman, was killed and four other people were injured when Parks’ Ford Focus was hit head-on by a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu in Douglas County.

Theo Roberts, 23, of Mableton, was driving the Chevrolet Malibu and was heading east on Bankhead Highway when his vehicle crossed the centerline, sideswiped a Ford pickup truck and then crashed into Parks’ Ford Focus according to Gordy Wright of the Georgia State Patrol. Roberts received injuries and was transported via ambulance to Wellstar Douglas Hospital in Douglasville, Georgia for treatment of his injuries. The pickup truck driver did not sustain injuries according to the authorities at the accident scene.

Criminal charges against Theo Roberts are pending upon the completion of an accident scene investigation by the Georgia State Police Specialized Reconstruction Team, according to authorities.

Three other occupants in the Parks’ vehicle received injuries. Authorities at the scene of the accident stated that a 19-month-old child (Akyeryah Mattox, of Mableton) sustained injuries and was rushed to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment. The second injury victim (Esther Ruth Mattox of Mableton) was transported by medical helicopter airlift to Atlanta Medical Center. The third occupant of the Parks’ vehicle, Tynesha Marshay Chatman of Mableton, was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Douglas where she was apparently treated and released.
