Dump Truck Accident Causes Woman’s Tragic Death on Route 22 in Baldwin County, Georgia
BALDWIN COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news story reported at unionrecorder.com, a dump truck accident caused a woman’s tragic death on Georgia Route 22 in Baldwin County, Georgia. The woman’s vehicle ran into the dump truck after crossing the centerline of the roadway for unknown reasons.*
The collision happened on the eastbound side of Route 22 near Black Springs Church Road in Baldwin County. Authorities report that a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu was headed west on the roadway and somehow drifted into the eastbound lanes by Lake Laurel Road. The driver of the Chevy then tried to move back into her lane while an eastbound 2007 Mack 700 dump truck tried to avoid hitting her.
The two vehicles ended up colliding head-on, according to Georgia State Patrol. The dump truck, owned by BJ’s Trucking Inc. out of Watkinsville, Georgia, was loaded with gravel at the time of the accident. It is not clear what caused the Chevy driver to leave her lane of travel and drive into opposite traffic.
The Union Recorder reports that the driver of the Chevy was tragically killed in the crash. Officials identified her as an 81-year-old woman from Sparta, Georgia. The deputy coroner said an autopsy was not planned.
The male driver of the dump truck was not seriously injured in the accident, according to the news report. No further injuries were reported.
The Union Recorder said this was the third fatal vehicle crash to happen on eastbound Route 22 in just two weeks. Georgia State Patrol is still investigating.
