Woman Sunbathing Run Over by Hit and Run Driver in Fernanda Beach, Florida

FERNANDINA BEACH, FL – According to an online news report at, a woman from Akron, Ohio was sunbathing on Fernandina Beach was struck by a hit and run driver.  The woman sustained serious injuries as a result of the accident.*

A sunbather on Fernandina Beach in Florida was struck by a hit and run driver while sunbathing.  The accident occurred at about 1:40 p.m. easterly of where the sand drops off toward the ocean at Seaside Park close to Sadler Road.

Per the Fernandina Beach Police Department, a fifty three year old woman from Akron, Ohio was struck by a Jeep Cherokee.  The Jeep left the scene of the accident despite being informed by an eyewitness that he had run someone over.

"The lady said, 'Stop. That guy just ran over me.' He got stuck right here. He just kept trying to go up, but one of the witnesses came over and said, 'Did you know you just ran someone over?' And he just kept going,'" one witness of the accident noted.

Upon investigation, and per eyewitness accounts in addition to evidence at the scene, the Jeep was going easterly towards the ocean and bounced off of the raised sand, which caused the driver to run over a woman as she was sunbathing on the beach.   

It is not clear as to the extent of the woman’s injuries. She was transported to a local hospital where her condition is not known at this time.

Another eyewitness noted that she was with the woman who was hit and tried to get the driver of the Jeep to stop.  According to this witness, the sunbathing woman was hit “all over her body.”

The hit and run driver was later apprehended where he may face charges of leaving the scene of the accident with injuries.
