Four State Region Law Enforcement Personnel Kick off Click It or Ticket Campaign
According to an online news report from txktoday.com, law enforcements representatives from the Four-States banded together on the morning of Monday, May 20, 2019 in Texarkana to launch the Click It or Ticket/Border to Border 2019 program, which promotes how seat belts can avoid fatalities during a car accident.*
Due to the Click It or Ticket/Border to Border safety campaign, there will be greater enforcement of seat belt laws between the May 20thand June 2nd.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, wearing a seat belt reduces the risk of being involved in a fatal vehicular accident by forty five percent and up to sixty percent if in a pickup truck.
“While many drivers and passengers have made a habit of buckling up, we still see an alarming number of nighttime motorists and pickup truck drivers and passengers who are lagging behind the rest of the state in seat belt use,” stated a Traffic Safety Specialist for TxDOT in Atlanta. “That’s unfortunate, because the few seconds it takes to fasten your seat belt can mean the difference between life and death in a crash. We never enjoy giving tickets, but if doing so gets someone to buckle up and that saves his or her life, then it’s worth it.”
Per the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), nine hundred eighty two people died in 2018 due to now wearing a seat belt. TxDOT further notes that driving during the nighttime is extremely dangerous. Just last year, there were over two thousand deaths and nearly seven thousand serious injuries that occurred between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
According to state law, every person in a vehicle must use their seat belts. If not, they could face monetary fines of up to $200. Children under the age of eight must be in a booster seat or car seat unless they have a height of greater than 4 feet 9 inches.
