Putting Your Feet on the Dashboard of a Vehicle is Dangerous
WALKER COUNTY, TN – According to an online news report at nhregister.com, a woman used to place her feet on the dashboard, which later on, caused her to break her leg in an accident.*
Whenever a woman from Walker County, Georgia would get into the passenger side of a vehicle, she would place her feet against the dashboard. According to the woman, her husband would warn her that an accident could cause her to break her leg. She dismissed her husband’s warning, which soon proved true when she was picking up her kids at her parents’ house. Back in 2015, the woman had her feet propped on the passenger side dashboard when she was involved in an accident where her vehicle was T-boned.
"When the airbag exploded, it pushed my foot up into my face," the woman said. The force of the accident not only caused a fracture of her leg, it also broke her shoulder and nose. Per a Facebook post by the Chattanooga Fire Department, airbags deploy between one hundred and two hundred twenty miles per hour. "If you ride with your feet on the dash and you're involved in an accident, the airbag may send your knees through your eye sockets," the post reads.
Upon arrival at the hospital following the accident, the doctors indicated to the woman that had she had her feet on the car’s floor, she would have walked away from the accident unscathed. To this day, her foot is a constant reminder of her decision to have her feet on the dashboard.
"I regret it every single day," the woman told news reporters. "Every hour of every day because every time I put pressure on my leg I feel it .... Do not sit like that."
