Florida Highway Patrol Begins ‘Click it or Ticket’ Campaign
FLORIDA – According to an online news report from spacecoastdaily.com, Florida Highway Patrol is joining the national “Click it or Ticket” campaign. The campaign, which will run until the beginning of June, encourages drivers to wear their seat belts at all times while driving or riding in a vehicle.*
National and local law enforcement participate in the Click it or Ticket campaign each year, and this year, the campaign is running until June 2. During this time, officers will be pulling over people they observe not wearing seat belts to let them know how important seat belts are in saving lives. Research consistently shows that drivers and passengers are less likely to be injured or killed in a collision if they are buckled up.
“It is a proven fact, seat belts save lives,” said Florida Highway Patrol Director Col. Gene Spaulding. “[Florida Highway Patrol] will continue to collaborate with our law enforcement partners on life-saving initiatives to ensure everyone makes it to their destination safely.”
Since 2009, seat belt violations have been primary offenses in Florida. This means officers can pull someone over for a seat belt violation alone; They do not have to ticket a seat belt violation in conjunction with another offense. There are no exceptions to the seat belt rules in Florida.
Seat belts can save people from injuries and death by preventing drivers and passengers from being ejected from a vehicle during an accident, saving people from being thrown out of their seats in an accident, and minimizing the amount of jostling that happens to people during a crash.
