Mazda Vehicles Recalled for Faulty Windshield Wipers that Can Cause Accidents

April 27, 2019

UNITED STATES – According to an online article posted at glassbytes.com, several hundred thousand Mazda vehicles are currently the subject of a recall regarding faulty windshield wipers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced that specific models of vehicles from Mazda North American Operations are included in the recall.*

The recall might affect businesses in the automobile glass industry, according to the article. More than 180,000 vehicles from Mazda are included in the recall, which involves Mazda 3 models manufactured between 2016 and 2018. Mazda is reportedly recalling the vehicles because they have faulty windshield wipers.

The relay in the windshield wipers might be defective on these models, which might result in the wipers becoming inoperable. If the wipers are not operating correctly or at all, drivers’ views could be obstructed during rain events and other inclement weather. Reduced ability to see on the road can lead to serious vehicle accidents.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the recall is expected to begin in June 2019, and owners of vehicles included in the recall will be notified by the manufacturer. Owners will be able to take their vehicles to dealerships for repairs at no cost. The repairs will include replacement of the front body control module that has an improved relay design for the windshield wipers.

In the meantime, owners who have questions can contact customer service at Mazda by calling (800) 222-5500 and selecting option 4. The reference number for this Mazda recall is 32119D. Drivers can also visit the website for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and enter their VINs to see if their vehicles are included in open recalls.
