Spartanburg, SC, Sees String of Deadly Accidents in First Weekend of April

April 13, 2019

SPARTANBURG, SC. – According to a news story reported online at wspa.com, the area of Spartanburg, South Carolina, saw a string of accidents during the first weekend of April. South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Greenville County Coroner’s Office responded to numerous vehicle crashes, including several fatal collisions.*

Between April 5 and April 8, six fatal accidents and 10 injury accidents took place in the Upstate. Both South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Greenville County Coroner’s Office responded to the fatality accidents, a task that never proves easy.

Greenville County Senior Deputy Coroner Kent Dill said his office knows when it is called to an accident, a difficult visit to family members is in store. Someone’s loved one is not going to be home that night.

“As we pull up in front of the house and we walk up to that door and ring the doorbell, up until that point, everything is ok,” Dill said of delivering tragic news to families. “But once we ring the doorbell, it won’t ever be the same again.”

As of current numbers on April 8, more than 220 people have died in vehicle accidents in South Carolina so far in 2019. That figure looks to match the pace of the 2018 numbers. South Carolina Highway Patrol Troopers have responded to many of those fatal accidents and hundreds more accidents involving injuries.

“You might be a great driver,” said Trooper Joe Hovis, of South Carolina Highway Patrol. “We have a lot of those here in South Carolina. There’s also people who do not follow those rules, and sometimes, it results in someone getting hurt or even a fatality.”
