NHTSA Recalls 2017 to 2019 Indian Scouts, Scout Sixty and Bobber Scouts Motorcycles
According to an online report at rideapart.com, the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA) is recalling 2017 to 2019 Indian Scouts, Scout Sixty and Bobber Scouts motorcycles due to anti-lock brake systems that are not filled with the proper fluids to the correct standard.*
Due to the defect, there is the potential for air to remain in the anti-lock brake system after manufacture, which could cause degradation of the performance of the brake after a certain period of time. The NHSTA notes that up to two thousand and seventy two motorcycles may be affected by the recall.
The following are the models of the vehicles that are subject to the recall:
- 2017-2019 Indian Scout Sixty
- 2017-2019 Indian Scout
- 2017-2019 Indian Scout Bobber
In the event that you own one of the above referenced motorcycles, and if they contain anti-lock brakes, your vehicle may be subject to the recall. According to rideshare.com, “t]he issue may manifest itself in a brake lever or brake pedal that starts feeling soft and spongy. Polaris, Indian's parent company, says that if this is present, the bike should not be operated until the break system has undergone the required repairs.”
Brakes that work are essential to any vehicle on the road. That is why it is essential that you do not ride your motorcycle if it was manufactured during the above referenced years until you have been given the green light by the dealer. If you do not know whether your motorcycle is subject to the recall, call the dealer and ask them to evaluate it before riding. If it is affected by the recall, the dealer will carry out the requisite maintenance and repair of the vehicle.
