Road Safe America: Use Extra Caution During Spring Break Traveling

March 23, 2019

ATLANTA, GA. – The nonprofit group Road Safe America, of Atlanta, Georgia, is urging drivers to use extra caution during Spring Break traveling, according to an online news story reported by daytondailynews.com. This traveling period is known for increased vehicle accidents, including increased large truck accidents.*

Spring Break is a popular time of year for people to take trips with their friends or family. It’s an enjoyable time of year, but it is also one of the more dangerous times of year for traveling due to increased traffic. Road Safe America says the weeks surrounding Spring Break are some of the most heavily traveled each year.

Most colleges and universities take a week off for Spring Break sometime between the end of February and the end of April. Car accidents and truck accidents usually tend to increase during this time, particularly for areas that are popular Spring Break destinations, like Texas, South Carolina, Florida, California, and Nevada. Accidents involving out-of-state residents jump during this timeframe.

“Young people on Spring Break need to be aware that a big rig can’t stop or maneuver as quickly or easily as their car, and that it could take more than the length of two football fields for a truck traveling 65 mph to completely stop,” said Steve Owings, cofounder of Road Safe America. “If a crash occurs with a big truck, the probability of injury or death in the car is very high, so always try to give them lots of room.”

Road Safe America encourages Spring Breakers and all other motorists to use additional caution and their best judgment during this travel period.
