Georgia Appears at No. 4 for ‘Dangerous’ Drivers Based on AAA Data
GEORGIA – An online news story from cheatsheet.com uses data from a AAA study to show which states have the most “dangerous” drivers, based on the number of hit-and-run accidents in the states, as well as the number of fatal vehicle crashes. Georgia has the fourth-highest number of “dangerous” drivers, based on a list created from the AAA data.*
The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reports that every 43 seconds in the United States, a fatal hit-and-run crash occurs. More than 2,000 fatal hit-and-run collisions happened in the U.S. in 2016, which was the most ever in one year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gathered data on both hit-and-run accidents and deadly vehicle accidents in each state in the U.S., and reporters with CheatSheet then created a ranking system of those states.
The list created by CheatSheet features 15 states with the most hit-and-run collisions and vehicle fatalities. Georgia was listed at No. 4 with its 2016 hit-and-run collisions totaling 72, and its 2016 fatal accidents totaling 1,154. Florida, Texas, and California were ahead of Georgia in the list.
The rest of the states in the top five, based on the information from NHTSA and CheatSheet, included:
- Illinois – Listed at No. 5 with 69 hit-and-runs and 1,082 fatal accidents in 2016.
- Florida – Listed at No. 3 with 206 hit-and-runs and 3,174 fatal accidents in 2016.
- Texas – Listed at No. 2 with 233 hit-and-runs and 3,776 fatal accidents in 2016.
- California – Listed at No. 1 with 337 hit-and-runs and 3,623 fatal accidents in 2016.
Other states in the list of 15 from CheatSheet included Alabama (No. 15), South Carolina (No. 13), Tennessee (No. 12), and North Carolina (No. 7).
