Mazda Recalling More Than 14,000 Vehicles for Transmission Issues
UNITED STATES – As reported online in a news story from wtoc.com, automaker Mazda is recalling more than 14,000 vehicles due to potential issues with the vehicles’ transmissions. It is not yet clear when the recall will officially begin. Mazda has not reported any crashes or injuries associated with the issue.*
The recall applies to 14,370 vehicles in total, including Mazda MX-5 Miatas that were manufactured between 2016 and 2019. The vehicles were manufactured by Mazda North American Operations. Mazda reports that these vehicles have potential transmission issues.
The range signal of the automatic transmissions in these Miata models can potentially experience “electrical noise” when motorists are in “drive” mode. This will possibly cause the vehicles to suddenly downshift, leading to an unexpected loss of acceleration in the drive wheels.
Mazda says the abrupt reduction of speed might influence the vehicles’ stability and result in loss of control by the drivers. This loss of control increases drivers’ risk of vehicle accidents. To date, Mazda says, the manufacturer has not received any reports of accidents or injuries sustained due to the potential transmission issues.
It is not clear when Mazda will roll out the recall. The recall does not apply to any other Mazda vehicles. Affected Miata owners will receive notice from the manufacturer and will be able to take their cars to local dealerships for repairs free of charge. Mazda has not indicated what repairs will be performed or how long the repairs might take.
People who might be included in the recall or have questions about the recall can contact Mazda by calling (202) 41-6325 or (949) 727-6182.
