Coweta County, Georgia Reports No Fatal Accidents in December 2018

COWETA COUNTY, GA. – As reported online by times-herald.com, Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol in Coweta County, Georgia, say no fatal vehicle accidents occurred in the county during the month of December in 2018. While Troopers responded to more than 100 crashes within the county, none of those crashes was deadly.*

The roads were certainly more crowded during December with the holidays, but Georgia State Patrol Post 24 in Coweta County report that no one was killed in a vehicle accident during that month. In total during December, Troopers in Coweta County responded to 106 vehicle accidents. These accidents resulted in 41 injuries, but no one died from injuries sustained in the accidents. 

Aside from the accidents, Troopers with Post 24 conducted 873 traffic stops and issued 623 citations and 585 warnings. The citations included 363 speeding violations, 56 seat belt violations, 18 distracted driving violations, and eight child restraint violations. Troopers also issued 16 warnings related to distracted driving or violations of the Hands-Free Georgia Act.

Troopers said the lack of fatalities during such a busy time was encouraging, but drivers need to stay diligent. Sergeant First Class Mike Searcy with the Georgia State Patrol told drivers to pay attention to the road and eliminate as many distractions in their vehicles as possible. Searcy said that 22 percent of all vehicle crashes and 16 percent of all deadly crashes are caused by distractions. These distractions almost always occur within three seconds of a crash, he said. 

“Please buckle up, and don’t drink and drive,” Searcy said.
