Georgia State Patrol to Drivers: Practice More Patience
THOMAS COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news story from walb.com, Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol in Thomas County, Georgia, have a message for drivers: Practice more patience. After responding to two fatal accidents and numerous others caused by drivers in a hurry, Troopers want people to take things easier on the roads.*
Recently in Thomas County, two deadly vehicle accidents occurred in two weeks. Two people died in those crashes, and Troopers believe these tragedies can usually be prevented. Corporal Kenneth Jones with the Thomas County Georgia State Patrol says drivers need to stay calm and think through the potential consequences of their actions.
“Just watch other drivers, as well as yourself,” Jones said. “Sometimes, you have to be a driver for yourself and the other person. So you know, just be watchful not to be distracted.”
Jones said most of the crashes the post responds to in Thomas County are caused by impatient drivers or distracted drivers. People want to bypass slow traffic, cut out ahead of people, or weave in and out of traffic to try to arrive somewhere faster. This type of recklessness leads to serious accidents.
During times of inclement weather, Jones says, people need to be especially diligent when driving. A car can begin hydroplaning at only 40 mph, he said, so people need to slow down when they are driving through rain or on wet roadways.
In late December 2018, Georgia State Patrol in Thomas County responded to 19 vehicle accidents and issued almost 70 speeding tickets.
