Toyota Recalling 1M Vehicles Worldwide for Air Bag Issues
DETROIT, MI. – November 1, 2018 - According to an online news report from wsbradio.com, carmaker Toyota is recalling more than 1 million vehicles worldwide because of issues related to air bags.*
A problem with the air bags can cause them to inflate without a crash or to fail to inflate in the event of a crash. An electrical short in the affected vehicles can damage the circuits and deactivate the air bags and seat belt pretensioners. The short could also cause the air bag systems to spontaneously deploy without a preceding crash. Toyota would not say whether the air bag issues have led to any traffic accidents or any injuries.
The recall applies to more than 1 million vehicles and includes the following Toyota models in the U.S., Japan, Europe, and other countries:
- 2004 – 2006 Toyota Scion xA
- 2002 – 2015 Toyota Isis
- 2002 – 2015 Toyota Avensis and Avensis Wagon
- 2002 – 2015 Toyota Allex
- 2002 – 2015 Toyota ist
- 2002 – 2015 Toyota Corolla, Corolla Spacio, Corolla Verso, Corolla Fielder, and Corolla Runx
- 2002 – 2015 Toyota Wish
- 2002 – 2015 Toyota Sienta
Toyota will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning in December. Owners will be able to take their vehicles to a local dealership for repair of the air bag control unit at no cost.
