Car Insurance Rates for 2018
USA- Bodyshopbusiness.com writes that car insurance rates vary depending on the state. Insurance premiums range from a high of $2,239 in Michiganto $932 in Vermont. Michigan has been the most expensive state to pay car insurance premiums in for the past five years. Although Michigan is paying less this year than in 2017, the rate is still 64 percent above the national average.
Vermont and other rural states with smaller populations tend to have lower insurance premiums. Vermont’s rates are $433 lower than the average.
Georgia ranks at number 8, with insurance premiums of $1,668, which is several hundred dollars above the national average of $1,365.
Insurance companies calculate rates using a variety of risk factors. Drivers have control over some of the factors and not others. Rates vary based on a driver’s age and gender with drivers paying less as they get older, and men paying less than women, who statistically are involved in fewer collisions.
If you live in an area that has high crime rates, or high rates of claims, your rates will be higher. Insurance companies also look at whether your vehicle is kept in a garage.
The type of car you driveis considered as well. If you own a minivan, your rates are likely lower than if you drive a luxury vehicle.
Of course, one major factor that contributes to how much a diver will pay is his or her driving record. Being involved in accidents and getting traffic violations are both likely to greatly increase your insurance rates.
Drivers in states with frequent bad weatheror high rates of uninsured drivers are also likely to pay higher insurance rates.
