Boy 5 Saves Grandmother After Car Accident in Fairborn, Ohio
FAIRBORN, OH- Wsbradio.com writes that a 5-year-old on his way to school with his grandmother was involved in a rollover crash. The boy’s grandmother lost consciousness while driving, and the vehicle crashed and flipped over.*
The child, Keegan Hall, was hanging upside down in his car seat in the overturned SUV. He managed to get himself out of the seat and got out to flag down help. The crash took place near the Fairborn Fire Station at about 11:45 in the morning.
The grandmother had a heart issue that caused her to black out before the accident. Keegan said he knew that his grandmother needed help. He was worried about her, and also worried because he knew he was supposed to be at school.
Keegan’s backpack was ruined in the crash when gasoline leaked onto it and destroyed the bag and everything in it. When Keegan’s parents came to get the boy, he was waiting with firefighters, and a nurse had purchased him a new backpack and school supplies to replace the ones that he had lost.
Rollover crashes are extremely dangerous, but passengers who are properly restrained in their seats have a much higher chance of surviving these types of crashes. One of the reasons is that seat belts, and age-appropriate child restraints keeppassengers from being ejected from the vehicle. Another way that restraints keep passengers safe is by preventing their heads from hitting the roof of a vehicle when it rolls over.
Rollover crashes can happen in any vehicle, but they are more likely in SUVs and pickup trucks because these vehicles have higher centers of gravity than do cars.
