July Named Deadliest Month by National Safety Council
UTAH – (good4utah.com) According to an online article at good4utah.com, July is the deadliest month of the year. The article examines some of the reasons why more accidents and fatalities occur in the month of July.
A recent report from the National Safety Council pegs July as the deadliest month each year in the United States. More deadly accidents of all types occur annually during this month. What are some of the reasons for that?
Motor Vehicle Accidents – As everyone knows, Independence Day occurs in July, and it is one of the biggest holidays of the year as far as widescale celebrations and traveling. The summer weather has people all over the country traveling to meet with friends and family, have cookouts, and hold or view fireworks displays. Increased travel means increased crashes, however. The best way to avoid these accidents during July — and any month of the year — is to prevent distractions behind the wheel, pay attention to surroundings, put away cell phones, and never drink and drive.
Fireworks – Along with motor vehicle accidents, July brings a lot of firework displays. Some people celebrate Independence Day all month long, and fireworks accidents can happen quickly. People who do not exercise appropriate caution when using fireworks can end up starting a fire or causing injury to themselves or others. Anyone who chooses to use fireworks should first be aware of fireworks laws in their state and should always follow the safety and handling instructions for the fireworks.
Using good judgment at home and on the road can ensure everyone has a safe and happy July each year.
