Montlick & Associates, Attorneys at Law, Cautions Drivers About Manufacturing Defect Which Could Cause You to Lose Control of Your Car
Georgia-based personal injury and products liability lawyers Montlick & Associates, Attorneys at Law, seek to warn people who own or drive certain Fiat Chrysler models that a defect in the cruise control could force you to lose controlwhile driving. A sudden loss of control can force the driver off of the road, into an obstacle, or into another car or pedestrian. According to Fiat Chrysler, the company recalled 4.8 million vehicles so that corrective measures could be taken immediately.
Montlick & Associates auto recall attorneys understand how frustrating it is to have to take your Fiat Chrysler in for service to repair a malfunction that should have been taken care of during the development and manufacturing stages of vehicle production.
If you or someone you love suffered a serious injury or a loved one perished as a result of an automobile defect, then you could be eligible to receive a significant financial award. Montlick & Associates auto recall lawyers experienced significant success prosecuting their clients’ claims for damages when auto manufacturers and retailers failed to manufacture their vehicles safely.

Cruise Control Malfunction
The problem among the 15 or so models recalled by Fiat Chrysler stems from a faulty cruise control. The vehicle manufacturer learned that drivers were unable to shut the cruise control off while the car was in motion. Fiat Chrysler determined that a short circuit was to blame for the problem. The short circuit supposedly occurs when the car accelerates while in cruise control.
The short circuit causes a loss of control over the cruise control settings. The operator will lose the ability to manage speed electronically. If that happens, the car could accelerate out of control. Also, the driver will not have the option of shutting the cruise control off if the short circuit occurs. Fiat Chrysler suggests that if the driver loses control, the driver can regain control by stepping on the brakes or shifting to neutral.
Fiat Chrysler assumes that people will not panic when they lose control over the speed of their cars and will respond rationally. Drivers use cruise control most often when they are on the interstate traveling at speeds around 70 miles per hour. Naturally, any one would panic if they could not control their speed while going that fast. Any collision while traveling at 70 miles per hour will result in severe bodily injury, or even death.
Fiat Chrysler believes that the problem can be rectified with a software update. The company has warned customers not to use the cruise control until they have had a chance to upgrade the software. Also, Fiat Chrysler claims to have discovered the problem during testing of their vehicles. One accident occurred while a subject car was in cruise control but further analysis suggested that the problem was caused by a rodent nest made from the wiring.
