Child Sustains Serious Injuries After Being Bitten by a Dog in Statesboro, Georgia
STATESBORO, GA – May 21, 2018 (wtvm.com). According to an online news report at wtvm.com, a child from Bulloch County was bitten in the face by a relative’s dog.*
The child was hospitalized and released Monday, May 21, 2018, after a relative’s dog bit her in the face, requiring her to have surgery to treat the wound. The mother’s posts about her child’s injuries went viral on social media. The accident occurred on Hendrix Circle near Statesboro.
Pictures were posted on social medial following the attack on her twenty two month year old daughter Evie. County officials note that the hospital contacted animal control and one of the investigators visited the dog owner’s home to speak with the dog’s owner. They returned on Monday, May 21, 2018 where the dog was placed in the custody of the county.
According to Ted Wyman, the Bulloch County Safety Director, "animal control must be notified in all bite cases to investigate whether there is a proper rabies vaccination or not.”
Evie’s mother indicates that plastic surgery will assist in the healing of the wound without not as much scarring but they will not be certain for some time until the wound on the child’s face begins to heal. Evie will be required to undergo additional surgery in the future.
Both the child’s mother and the dog owner are significantly upset over what happened to Evie, stating that the incident was a “freak accident.” Per county investigators, they are looking into the matter but do not expect charges to be filed in the case.
