Driver Dies in Harris County Single-Vehicle Crash

April 29, 2018

HARRIS COUNTY, GA. – April 25, 2018 ( A Harris County crash has resulted in the tragic death of one man, according to a news report by*

  • Georgia State Patrol Senior Trooper George Cotton told reporters that a man died in a single-vehicle accident the morning of April 25 on Ga. 315. Around 11:30 a.m., 66-year-old Kevin Andrews was traveling on Ga. 315, and his vehicle went off the road in Ellerslie near the water tower. After running off the road, Andrews hit two trees. He was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
The Harris County Coroner pronounced Andrews dead at the scene. Georgia State Patrol is investigating the collision and has not yet released additional information about its cause. The collision appears to have only involved Andrews’s vehicle, as no other vehicles or injuries have been reported.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Commission recently gathered data concerning single-vehicle run-off-road crashes that occurred between the years 1991 and 2007. The Commission’s study indicated that several of the same types of circumstances tend to be involved when these crashes result in fatalities. According to the Commission’s findings, the following circumstances tend to lead to a higher risk of run-off-road crashes and fatal injuries in those crashes:
  • Driver fatigue
  • Alcohol use
  • Roadway alignment with curves
  • Speed of the vehicle
  • Speed limit on the road
  • Type of vehicle
  • Rural vs urban roadway
  • Adverse weather

Further study indicates that these types of accidents usually occur when only one person is inside the vehicle (the driver). Passengers are usually not involved in or injured in single-vehicle crashes in which vehicles run off the road.
