New App Allows Marietta Parents to Track School Buses

A new app will allow parents in Marietta to track their children’s school buses right from their phones, according to an online report by fox5atlanta.com.

The Marietta School Board has approved an app that will launch this fall and allow parents to stay informed about their children’s bus rides. School buses in Marietta already have GPS tracking on them, and the district’s new app, called “Ride 360,” extends the technology into the hands of parents. The Board sees the app as a way for parents to have greater peace of mind and ease of planning knowing where their children are and when their children will be arriving back at bus stops or at home. 

The app can alert parents when a bus is almost to a designated stop and update parents on a bus’s ETA. Parents can also set the app to alert at a certain time. For instance, if a parent wants to know when the bus is ten minutes from a certain stop, the app will always alert when the bus is ten minutes away. In addition, the app will carry information about delays and whereabouts, so parents know why the bus is late and when it might arrive. This will hopefully eliminate time spent waiting and wondering. 

Made by Tyler Technologies, the app will cost the district approximately $34,000 a year and will contain preemptive security provisions, like questions parents have to answer about their children. The Board hopes the app will be ready to install and running in time for the start of the 2018-2019 school year.
