The Danger and Prevalence of Rear-end Collisions

May 27, 2017

An Orlando man was killed when his car was hit three times, according to a local news report. The wreck happened on Interstate 95 north of Darien and began with a rear-end collision, in which a tractor trailer struck a small hatchback from behind. The hatchback spun around and came to rest in the same lane on the side of the road where it had been traveling. A pickup truck collided with the hatchback, sending it sideways into the middle lane, where it collided a third time, this time by another tractor trailer.

Multiple Vehicle Accident Kills One Man

The multi-vehicle wreck described above claimed the life of one man, who was wearing his seatbelt. The driver of the pickup truck got hurt, and he was taken to the hospital for treatment. The drivers of the two tractor trailers were not injured, nor were the driver and passenger of a fifth vehicle that became ensnared in the pile-up when it hit debris from the wreck on the road and became disabled.

Rear End Crashes are Not Uncommon

Rear end crashes are a frequently occurring type of accident. These wrecks can happen when a driver abruptly pulls in front of another moving car, or when drivers follow other vehicles too closely. Rear-end accidents can also be caused by distracted drivers, sudden slowing of traffic, or wet or slippery roads. The can cause painful injuries, and they also often cause extensive damage to one or both vehicles.  If you are involved in a rear-end crash, call the police right away so that they can send emergency personnel to the scene to assist anyone who was hurt.
