Young Woman Dies in Collision with Tractor Trailer

A young lady perished in a recent accident in Columbia County. The crash happened when the truck that the eighteen-year-old girl was driving left its lane and collided with a tractor trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer went to a hospital for further examination. The cause of the crash was not immediately discernible, and authorities will conduct a thorough investigation of the accident scene to determine possible reasons for the wreck.

Accidents Involving Tractor Trailers are Different from Accidents Involving Only Passenger Vehicles

While every motor vehicle wreck is a unique situation, there are a few things that further differentiate accidents involving tractor trailers from accidents that involve only passenger vehicles. The most noticeable difference between accidents where one or more of the vehicles involved is a tractor trailer is the degree of injury and property damage involved. It is not unusual for there to be one or more fatalities in a wreck involving at least one tractor trailer, and there are often severe injuries and significant amounts of property damage. The reason for the increased amount of injury and damage in accidents involving tractor trailers is fairly obvious – tractor trailers are larger and heavier than other vehicles.

Another difference between accidents involving tractor trailers and accidents involving only passenger vehicles is that there are additional types of evidence that are important to understanding the accident and pursuing a claim for damages. Attorneys who handle tractor trailer accident cases know how to obtain and interpret the physical evidence and business records that are involved in tractor trailer accident cases, and they know how to use that evidence on behalf of their clients.

The third difference between accidents involving tractor trailers and those that solely include passenger vehicles is the number of parties whose interests are connected with the crash. The driver and any passengers in the tractor trailer and in the other vehicles that were involved in the wreck have rights and interests that are connected to the accident, but not every party who has a right or an interest in connection with the claim is present at the crash scene. Some of the other parties who could be involved in any claim that follows the accident include the business that owns the truck and employs the driver, any repair facilities that have repaired the truck, the truck manufacturer, and the manufacturers of any parts that were used to maintain the truck.
