Family and Friends Mourn After Atlanta Area Hit and Run Accident Kills 59-Year-Old Woman
Hit and run accidents have proven to be some of the most tragic accidents to occur, especially when the driver who flees the scene is never found. Family and friends are facing such a tragedy, trying to overcome the loss of their loved one, who was struck by two vehicles near the intersection of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and Wood Street a short time ago, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
The accident occurred in the evening, and it may have been difficult to see. As the woman was pushing her shopping cart across the street, the driver of a 1995 GMC Sierra pickup truck tried to avoid hitting the woman's shopping cart, instead striking the woman. The driver of the pickup truck did not flee the scene and told authorities that he saw the shopping cart, but did not see the woman. The impact of this first collision caused the woman to be thrown into another lane where a second vehicle, a black four-door car, struck the woman and fled the scene of the accident.
Eyewitness Says Driver Who Fled the Scene Was Speeding
One eyewitness to this accident told authorities that the pickup truck was not speeding at the time this accident occurred, but that the second vehicle was speeding. This speeding vehicle did not stop and fled the scene of the accident. It does not seem as though this driver has been apprehended yet, leaving the 59-year-old woman's loved ones anxious and heartbroken.
What Options Are Available to Loved Ones?
Hit and run accidents can be very difficult to overcome, and this particular accident is unique in that the fatally injured woman was not driving, but was simply a pedestrian. In her case, there were two drivers involved, one of which may have insurance that could potentially be used to compensate the family of the woman.
Not only was this 59-year-old woman a pedestrian at the time this accident took place, but one driver was speeding and fled the scene of the accident, and the accident took place near an intersection, not to mention that the accident occurred at night where visibility may have been diminished.
These contributing factors make it difficult for a family to put the pieces back together, but an attorney with the necessary skill and experience can assimilate these factors and determine if legal action is a possible option on behalf of the victim's family. No matter what the circumstances are with any given accident, if you or a family member have been a victim of negligence, it can be a good idea to seek the guidance of an experienced legal professional who can advise you on your legal rights as well as what steps are necessary to protect those rights.
