Mom’s Heart-Wrenching Note on Alcohol-Related Crash Goes Viral

November 10, 2015

A woman's tragic post reliving how an alcohol-related crash claimed the lives of her husband and young son has gone viral. This young mother is hoping that her heartbreaking story will help to reduce the number of alcohol related injuries and deaths. The 22 year old Missouri woman writes that she met her husband when the two were in 10th grade. She described her husband as funny and caring. Three years later, the couple wed and gave birth to a son. Last year, their lives were forever changed when the family of three drove across town for an appointment. A motorist hit the driver's side of their minivan and the infant tragically died at the scene of the crash. Moreover, both parents were critically injured. The mother survived, but her husband died less than a day after the crash and the at-fault driver also perished in the accident.

Investigations revealed that the at-fault driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash. She had left a wedding reception where she consumed alcohol then took to the road. The grieving mother states that no one from the driver's family ever reached out to apologize or offer their condolences. She has expressed her sadness and pain that the actions of one woman cost her family so greatly as well as urges everyone not to drink and drive, to never allow friends to drink and drive and not to share DUI checkpoints. She has filed a lawsuit against the wedding reception venue and two co-hosts of the party, alleging that they were negligent for allowing their guest to consume alcoholic beverages to the point of visible intoxication and permitting the guest to leave the premises while intoxicated.

Seeking Compensation for Your Injuries Related to a Drunk Driving Accident

If you have been injured in an accident and the driver might have been intoxicated, promptly seek the assistance of a licensed automobile accident attorney. You should seek medical attention right away, regardless of whether you believe you have been injured in the accident. Car accident injuries might not be readily apparent and you could risk further injury if not medically evaluated.

In Georgia, drunk driving accident victims may be able to seek punitive damages. Punitive damages are awarded in addition to compensatory damages, such as medical bills and lost wages. They are intended to punish the driver or other entity responsible for the crash. The judge has great discretion in awarding punitive damages, which can be substantial.
