Wayne County Baseball Star Killed in Tragic Automobile Accident

August 07, 2015

Recently, a Wayne County baseball star who signed with the Georgia Southern Eagles earlier in the year tragically perished in a Long County accident, according to WJCL. Reportedly, a Mustang driven by the 18 year old rising star was struck by a log truck after the driver lost control of the vehicle shortly after 2 p.m. on U.S. Highway 301. Witnesses report that traffic on the highway had slowed unexpectedly and the Mustang swerved over the lane, then back, colliding with a log truck in the southbound lane. The driver of the log truck reported that he attempted to avoid hitting the Mustang but was unable to do so.

The Mustang ran into the log truck on the side and the baseball player was sadly pronounced dead several hours after being extracted by emergency personnel. This tragic end to such a promising young life has shaken the community.

Wrongful Death Actions and Children

If your child, regardless of age, is killed due to negligence, you should have the right to file a wrongful death action. The parents of any child who is not married and does not have surviving children can file a wrongful death lawsuit seeking to recover damages for the loss of their child.

Wrongful death actions are intended to compensate people for the loss of the life of their loved ones. Such damages are difficult to quantify and parents who lose a child in an automobile accident will require the assistance of knowledgeable counsel who can act quickly to preserve evidence. There are several factors the jury can take into account when arriving at the value of the life of the deceased, including economic losses, loss of enjoyment and other damages. With teens and younger children, it can be especially difficult to place values on the loss of financial potential.

Testimony of the parents, friends or relatives of the victim as to the devastating nature of their loss is often the most powerful evidence in wrongful death actions involving younger individuals. Families deserve to be justly compensated and your wrongful death attorney will help to ensure you receive the damages to which you are entitled under Georgia law. Act quickly following the loss of your child in any Georgia accident by retaining a reputable wrongful death attorney who can advise you of your rights as well as take the proper actions to protect those rights.
