Survivor of Fiery Georgia Accident Thanks Her Heroes
In May of this year, a U-haul slammed into an SUV traveling on Tara Boulevard, according to WSB TV. Investigations revealed that the U-haul ran a red light, crashing into a car carrying a local victim's advocate for the Clayton County District Attorney's office. The car rolled over several times before landing on its wheels. Flames engulfed the vehicle, trapping the victim inside.
Several Jonesboro police officers arrived quickly on the scene and rushed to free the woman trapped inside the burning SUV. One office reportedly broke his hand while breaking the window so that he could reach inside and save the woman. Several other officers assisted in the rescue. Now, this local victim's advocate is ensuring her heroes are thanked for their bravery. The Clayton County District Attorney honored the officers for their professionalism and dedication, while the accident survivor, wheeled in by her husband, thanked them for saving her life.
The Importance of First Responders—First Responders Save Lives
First responders include fire, police and medical personnel. These brave individuals are usually the first to be dispatched to any accident or crime. They must deal with critical emergencies, freeing victims from vehicles, putting out fires, disarming dangerous individuals and much more. First responders are sometimes even killed while heroically attempting to save others. They face unique risks in being the first people to provide aid in uncertain situations. The efforts of first responders save thousands of lives each year and make a critical difference to families across the country.
Recently, there has been a movement to designate a national holiday honoring first responders. A house bill was introduced last year directing the President to issue a proclamation that designates National First Responders Day as a legal public holiday. The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
Several states and local counties have already created First Responder appreciation days or weeks. This past April, Clayton County celebrated First Responder Appreciation Week with a series of fun events, food, and music.
If you have been involved in a car, truck, or any other sort of accident, do not forget to honor those that helped you in your time of need. First responders deserve recognition for the brave and often thankless services they render.
