Deadly Head-On Collision in Jefferson County May Have Been the Result of Drunk Driving

July 08, 2015

Accidents in Georgia, which occur on a regular basis, are bad enough when they involve driver error, such as running a red light, failing to signal when changing lanes, or texting while driving. However, when an accident involves a drunk driver, the matter becomes much more tragic for those who lost a loved one. A recent such accident resulted in the loss of one innocent victim's life and injuries suffered by two family members, according to WRDW TV.

As a family was traveling in an SUV in the southbound lane of a Jefferson County road, a man driving a smaller vehicle was driving from the opposite direction, swerving into the southbound lane when it was struck by the family. The SUV the family was driving in flipped over, leading to the tragic death of one passenger and injuries to the other as well as the driver.  Authorities believe that the man driving the car was likely intoxicated at the time the accident occurred. This catastrophic accident is particularly outrageous, as drunk driving continues to occur despite tough criminal consequences.

Injured Victims and Their Loved Ones Should Seek to Hold the Drunk Driver Responsible

All cases are different, but many injured individuals and families who have sadly lost a loved one due to a drunk driving accident should seek to hold the drunk driver accountable for the suffering they have been through. Not only does a drunk driver face criminal charges, but he or she can also face civil liability in the form of a personal injury or wrongful death claim. Accidents involving alcohol or drugs are very sensitive matters, and if you or a loved one has experienced this type of suffering, it is crucial that you have a highly skilled attorney standing by your side. Nobody deserves to be injured or killed at the expense of drunk driving.

Having the right attorney to represent your rights and those of the loved one you have lost is necessary to reaching a fair result. However, even when it is clear a drunk driver has caused the accident that resulted in your injuries or the tragic death of a loved one, results can never be guaranteed, as all cases are different. With the help of an attorney who handles personal injury cases on a daily basis, you will have a more thorough understanding of your situation as well as what the best option is for resolving the matter in the most fair and reasonable way possible.
