Georgia Man Injured After Train Strikes His Vehicle at a Railroad Crossing

June 12, 2015

Railroad accidents often result in severe injuries or death to many innocent victims, and while automobile accidents that involve trains and/or railroads are not as common as your ordinary car accident, they still occur much more frequently than they should. Many railroad accidents that involve vehicles occur at railroad crossings, and any vehicle involved is likely to be severely damaged by any impact with a train.

Recently, a Georgia woman tried to beat a train by passing as the railroad crossing arms were coming down, but she was unable to make it, according to CBS 46.  The train reportedly struck the back of her car and she sustained injuries that were treated at a nearby hospital. It is unclear just how serious the woman's injuries are, but the fact remains that any accident involving a train has the potential to result in serious debilitating injuries or death.

Georgia Railroad Crossings Remain a Dangerous Place

This story sheds light on the danger of railroad crossings. Many people believe railroad crossings can be made safer than they currently are, but until such changes are made, all Georgia drivers should be aware that impact with trains can be sudden and devastating, with little to no warning.  Moreover, crossing signs cannot always be relied upon. There are times when railroad crossing signs may be malfunctioning, and in such cases, passing drivers may not be aware that a train is heading their way. This is why it is always important to stop and look both ways at every railroad crossing, regardless of whether or not there are signs indicating a train is approaching. This is basic advice we have all heard before, but it still holds true today.

Seeking Legal Advice Following Your Accident

Automobile accidents that involve trains, whether they occur at railroad crossings or not, are sometimes difficult to investigate, as it is not always easy to determine who is at fault for causing the accident.
