NHTSA Warns Parents Not to Use Their Children to Test Tesla's Safety Features
According to an online news report published on www.bloomberg.com, some Tesla owners are tweeting videos showing their Teslas automatically stopping near their children.
The U.S. automobile safety regulator is urging Tesla owners to stop using their kids to test Tesla's automated-driving technology. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration voiced its concerns stating that it is highly dangerous for someone to test "vehicle technologies on their own." The NHTSA public warning follows Tesla owners posting videos of their children being used to test Tesla's Full Self Driving mode. Moreover, the NHTSA stated that consumers should not use people to try and recreate test scenarios, especially using children, to test the vehicle technology.
Tesla, which dissolved its media relations division, failed to respond to Bloomberg's request for comment.
One tweet features a short video displaying the interior of a Tesla vehicle parked as the operator tests the vehicle's self-driving mode. At some point, a small child is shown standing in the street while the Tesla begins moving slowly toward the child and then stops before hitting the child. The video followed another video showing a Tesla vehicle running over kid-sized mannequins. NHTSA repeated that "no vehicle available for purchase today is capable of driving itself."
