U.S. Travel Booms This 4th of July Weekend - Please Drive Safe!
According to voanews.com, Americans are traveling this 4th of July in numbers not seen since before the Coronavirus pandemic. The amount of travelers this year is also creating challenges for airlines and airports that have been struggling to meet the demand. There have been hundreds of canceled domestic flights and thousands of flight delays this weekend.
VOANews.com reports that more than 2.4 million travelers made their way through Transportation Security Administration checkpoints. TSA data states that this was an increase of more than 13.8%. The increase in vacations and domestic travel has airlines struggling to keep flights on schedule. This is due to airlines encouraging their workers to retire early or quit during the height of the pandemic. Now airlines are finding it difficult to train and hire new workers. Several airlines slashed their summer schedule to prevent issues stemming from last-minute flight cancelations.
According to AAA, travel by motor vehicle was expected to be substantial. AAA predicted that nearly 50 million people would travel 50 miles or more during the fourth's holiday weekend. That number is higher than in 2019 and comes during record-high gasoline prices.
As motorists head home on Tuesday, traffic safety website iRideSafe.com provides outstanding driving advice, tips, and strategies to help teen drivers stay safe. The 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day are known as the "100 Deadliest Days" of summer for teen drivers since more fatal teen crashes occur during this period than at any other time of the year.
