These U.S. Cities That Have the Most Car Accidents

November 09, 2021

According to a and data from the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were about 38,700 people who were tragically killed in car accidents last year in the United States. Best Life examined a recent study by Insurify that analyzed their own database of nearly 2 million auto insurance applications. The applications included driver history, vehicle, and whether or not the applicant had an at-fault accident in the past seven years. The data helped to define which city, in each state, has the most "accident-prone" drivers.

The researchers also applied their application database to determine the rate of drunk driving violations per city and used City-Data to ascertain the average time drivers spent traveling to work daily.

The following twenty cities have the highest accident-prone drivers in the United States.

  1. Johns Island, South Carolina
  2. Silver Spring, Maryland
  3. Frisco, Texas
  4. Woodbridge, Virginia
  5. Roseville, California
  6. Buffalo, New York
  7. Gresham, Oregon
  8. Woodstock, Georgia
  9. Everett, Washington
  10. West Jordan, Utah
  11. Pawtucket, Rhode Island
  12. Murfreesboro, Tennessee
  13. Littleton, Colorado
  14. Fort Wayne, Indiana
  15. Pensacola, Florida
  16. Cincinnati, Ohio
  17. Lincoln, Nebraska
  18. Fayetteville, Arkansas

According to the data, the at-fault crash rate in Johns Island, South Carolina, is the highest in the United States. However, the city's DUI rate is low at only 1.3 percent. The city's average daily commute time is just under 27 minutes.
