Father Says X-Lite Guardrail Impaled His Daughter's Vehicle and Killing Her
GREENVILLE, NC - A news report published on CBS17.COM states that there is a growing endeavor to have certain guardrails removed from roadways across the United States due to safety concerns. A Tennessee father has been speaking out against the use of X-Lite Guardrails that he believes are responsible for causing his daughter's death in 2016.
The public safety advocate states the X-Lite guardrail caused his daughter's death. This railing is used on North Carolina roadways. He also reported that several other states throughout the U.S: have already replaced "X-Lites," but North Carolina has not replaced them. He said that his investigation began following his daughter's tragic death and that he quickly realized there have been several other fatal spearing accidents involving this type of guardrail. He also stated that guardrails are supposed to absorb some of the accident forces, but X-Lites do not, and instead, the X-Lites impaled his daughter's vehicle, killing her.
The guardrails are made by the Lindsay Corporation. The news report claims that the Lindsay Corporation website states, "In May 2017, the federal highway administration (FHWA) examined available end terminal performance data and found no reason to conclude that the devices reviewed – including the X-Lite – are unsafe."
According to the news report, State Representatives affirmed that new no road projects would use X-Lite rails. There are currently somewhere between four and five thousand X-Lite rails in North Carolina.
