Consumer Reports Says Tesla Should Learn From its Competition on How to Keep its Drivers Alert
USA - A news article on FORBES.COM states that Tesla and the Autopilot feature are the subject of approximately 23 active safety investigations by the federal government. According to the news report, many of the collisions occurred when the Autopilot feature was turned on.
As the demand for Automated Driving Technology grows, accident evidence shows that these systems should be focusing on keeping the drivers awake, alert, and ready to take over the operation of the motor vehicle instead of encouraging drivers to rely on the technology entirely.
A new Consumer Reports study examined how different automakers use cameras to monitor drivers' attention and sleepiness. The study also looked at how to balance privacy interests using cameras to help stimulate drivers and avoid potential accidents.
Tesla has often referred critics to its owner's manuals, stating that a driver must always remain awake and ready to take control over the steering wheel while the Autopilot system is engaged.
