Fatal Traffic Accidents in Georgia Increased in February
According to Georgia State Patrol, the number of local, fatal traffic accidents rose during the month of February in the state of Georgia. Although there was a substantial decrease in the number of traffic injuries in January 2021, Georgia State Patrol Troopers from Post 24 in Newnan announced there were more fatal accidents in February than in January.
Sargeant Mike Searcy states that traffic accidents also dropped from 45 in January to 30 crashes in February. He also stated that Georgia State Patrol Troopers in his troop made over 460 traffic stops, and they issued over 315 traffic citations in February. The totals included 11 driving under the influence arrests, 168 speeding tickets, 19 child restraint violations, and 18 seatbelt violations. They also issued 43 warnings for distracted driving.
Sargeant Mike Searcy urges drivers to pay attention while they drive and to ignore things inside their motor vehicle such as mobile devices, as 22 percent of all crashes and 16 percent of all fatal crashes were caused by some form of distraction occurring within three seconds of the crash.
